Once upon a time and long ago, there was a country far away and within this country there was a town and this town had no name. There was danger all around and strong persecution.

The enemy came to this town, surrounded it and took all the young men captive. They put them in a prison in the center of the town. Because of their captivity the entire town suffered. Women and children were doing without the necessities; they were desperate to have their men released.

First Rich Man

There was a very rich man in the town stepped to the forefront; he gathered up all of his wealth, went to the town hall and announced to everyone that he was going to help the captives.

He went to the enemy and said: I understand that the prisoners have no clean, cool water, would you allow ME to provide them with clean fresh water?

The enemy agreed.

The man quite proud of himself returned to the town hall and was praised by everyone in the town.

Second Rich Man

There was a second rich man in town who heard of the accolades the first man received for helping the prisoners so he also gathered up all of his wealth and went to the town hall and announced to everyone that he was going to help the captives in an even grander way.

He went to the enemy and said: I understand that the prisoners have no warm blankets, would you allow ME to provide them with warm blankets?

The enemy agreed.

The man returned to the town hall, quite pleased with himself and received a lot of praise from the local people. They even considered him a hero of sorts.

Third Rich Man

Now there was a third rich man in town. He was the only rich man left and because of the other two were getting so much attention, he was being ignored. He decided that he would do something even more magnanimous. He gathered up all of his wealth and he went to the town hall and told them that his gift would be the best one yet given. The town was excited and backed him; in fact they even followed him to where the prisoners were.

He went to the enemy and said: I understand that the prisoners need food, not only will I give them all of this food, but I will continue to grow even more for them, and if you are gentle with the prisoners, I will even give some food to you. Will you allow ME to do this he asked?

And of course: The enemy agreed.

By not the town was celebrating…..their men had cool, clean water, warm blankets, a continual supply of food: what else could they want? The three rich men had received what they wanted: FAME. even if they had to deal with the enemy to get it.

FAST FORWARD to another town, in this country, during the present days. This town also had no name, but it was located on the east side of LA, the west side of Chicago or the south side of Miami. It really does not matter where it is, because it is most everywhere.

The New Town with No Name

In this Town with no name: there was danger all around and there was much persecution.

The enemy came to this town, surrounded it and took all the young men captive. They put them in a prison in the center of the town. They were held captive and the entire town suffered. Women and children were doing without the necessities; they were desperate to have their men released.

First Rich Man

There was a very rich man in that town who stepped to the forefront, he gathered up all of his wealth, went to the town hall and announced to everyone that he was going to help the captives.

He went to the enemy and said: I understand that the prisoners are addicted to drugs. I will provide Methadone to relieve their struggles. Will you allow ME to do this?

The enemy agreed.

The man quite proud of himself returned to the town hall and was praised by everyone. Of course Channel 2 5 and 7 were there.

Second Rich Man

There was a second rich man in this town who heard of the accolades the first man received for helping the prisoners so he also gathered up all of his wealth and went to the town hall and announced to everyone that he was going to help the captives in an even grander way.

He went to the enemy and said: I understand that the men who are addicted to alcohol need a 12 step program. Will you allow ME to furnish this for them?

The enemy agreed.

The man returned to the town hall, pleased with himself and received much praise from the local people. Not only was he on TV locally, he now made national news, and oh yes he received many awards for his work with “the underprivileged prisoners”. He received grants and financial help which inflated his ego even larger than it had always been.

Third Rich Man

There was a third rich man. He was the only rich man left and because of the other two were getting so much attention, he was being ignored. He decided that he would do something even more magnanimous. He gathered up all of his wealth and he went to the town hall and told them that his gift would be the best one given.

The town was excited and backed him; in fact they even followed him to where the prisoners were.

He went to the enemy and said: I have gotten government support to provide money for the prisoner’s families while they are in prison. Will you allow ME to furnish this for them, oh yes; there is a small cut for you.

The enemy agreed.

The man returned to the town hall, praise, awards, national recognition and yes, they even named the town after him. It no longer had no name, it had a name given to it by the world. They rewarded him because he was dealing with this unpleasant problem, and they no longer had to.

By now the town was celebrating…..their men had a substitute for drugs (forgetting methadone was also addicting and dangerous, but since the government was supplying it, no one cared. No one noticed that now the government was profiting from the men’s addictions, rather than the drug dealers. But it really didn’t matter to the town, them men were more comfortable now during the time of their captivity.

They also had a 12 step program that eased the pressure of alcoholism (even though it made them confess that they will be alcoholics for the rest of their lives: but everyone seemed OK with this because the men were now more comfortable in their captivity.

Their families were being provided for by someone else: no pressure, everyone was happy. The families soon forgot the pain of the father/brother/ or son being in prison, after all they were getting used to it. The men were more content and the families were being cared for by the system.

The three rich men were considered heroes…..saviors of the town.

All was well. Or was it?

Fourth Man

Now there was a forth man, he appeared from nowhere. As the crowd was busy honoring their new celebrities, He quietly walked to the prison.

At the door he shouted:

I have not to make you more comfortable in captivity. I have not come to negotiate with the enemy. I have come to set you free, with that he opened the door of the prison. Then He quickly disappeared, no fanfare, no TV, just the job well done.

Who was that 4th man?

Let’s look at Daniel, Chapter 3

The king had decreed that everyone bow down and worship an idol, that was a severe form of bondage because it was required.

It was a secular law that violated Jehovah God. The three Hebrew boys did not bow so the King had them bound and thrown into a fiery furnace. This furnace represented prison, bondage and death.

Let’s look at verse 24 and 25:

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Halleluiah: When you are in prison of any kind, Jesus will always show up.
Isaiah 61:1-3
1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
This is the power that we need; this is the direction that our ministries must take. It is time to quit making people accept their bondage by making it easy to stay there. We must use the power of the Word to open the doors of their prison and to set them free.

John 14:12
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

When Jesus left: He passed on his power and spirit to the believers. We have the duty to use this power, the word tells us that to whom much is given, much is required.

We are encouraged, yes, REQUIRED to do the heard of the Lord Jesus.

When we get reluctant or in fear to speak the Word in different situations: I remind you of this scripture.
In Luke 6:46 we see that Jesus says: And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
He says: We are to set the captives free! AMEN
